Driving under the influence is a major crime in which you can face serious repercussions. You know that when you enter a car to drive after you have had too much to drink you are taking the risk of not only injuring yourself or someone else, but also of facing legal issues. However, there are some ways you can get charged with a DUI even if you do not actually drive. Here's how:

Sleeping in Your Car

If you have had too much to drink and you know it is a bad idea to drive, you may think that pulling over to sleep it off for a while is a good thing to do. However, sleeping in your car while you are under the influence could lead to an arrest for a DUI. This is all based on appearances.

The police officer may look at where your car keys are placed and your disposition in the vehicle. If the keys are situated in the ignition, you can possibly be arrested. In addition, if you look like you thought about driving before you fell asleep, you can also face an arrest as well. If you decide to sleep in your car for a little while, remove the keys from the ignition and out of your reach. Place them into your purse, in the trunk, or in the glove compartment. You may also want to lie in the backseat or in the passenger seat while you sleep. You want to appear as though you have no intention of driving at any point soon.

Driving a Power Wheelchair

While you may not think a power wheelchair can do much damage at a low speed, you can still cause an accident if you are under the influence. If are driving your wheelchair on the sidewalk or in the street and you block the roadway or hit another person or even a vehicle, you can be arrested for it. If you have had too much to drink, avoid leaving on your power wheelchair, even if it does not move fast.

Riding a Horse

Believe it or not, you could face a DUI arrest if you ride a horse while you are under the influence. If you have no wits about you after indulging in alcohol, you can make poor decisions, despite what mode of transportation you are on. If you are on a horse and near an area of traffic, you and your horse can not only cause harm to yourselves, but also to other drivers around you. You may not be able to correctly command the horse, so it is best to stay away if you have had too much to drink.
